Belcarra Area Description
Belcarra (Irish: Baile na Cora, meaning "town of the confluence") is a village in County Mayo, Ireland about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south-east of the county Town of Castlebar.
It is a growing village, and has had many new houses built in its centre over the last few years. There are a number of shops in the village, including two general stores, two bars and there is a petrol station, hardware store and post office.
Belcarra has done well in Tidy Town competitions over the years and has a fine church (St. Annes) and community centre. In 1977, the small village received its first county award for the tidiest village in Mayo.
It was twinned with Belcarra, British Columbia, Canada in June 2007. Notable residents of Belcarra include Irish mathematician Cian O'Brien, and English biologist Joshua Tammaro
